Chapter 1357: Urgency

Back to Chapter List
After stabilizing the balance among the anchor, the "Heavenly Sovereign's" will, and his own consciousness, Kline leaned back against the chair and examined the various abilities conferred by the extraordinary nature of the "Mysterious Servant." Among these, three were most significant—abilities that Kline had previously harnessed through the "Source Fortress" and the "Veil," though he had not yet given them specific names: First, the ability of "Regeneration." If an object's constituent materials once harbored a spirit, the "Mysterious Servant" could invoke the corresponding "spirit threads" to transform the object into a personal companion, thereby naturally elevating any living being that had established a deep connection with the object into a companion as well. In short, the "Mysterious Servant" cannot generate a "spiritual thread" in things that originally lacked one; however, it can revive a "spiritual thread" that once existed but has since vanished—representative examples include metallic items and coins, while foodstuffs such as beef and fish are typical cases. Once humans consume food transformed into a secret figure (a "secret figure"), they themselves become transformed into secret figures, as if subjected to intense contamination. The second type is "recomposition," also known as "redefinition": this ability can recombine various tangible objects or abstract concepts, producing remarkable and unexpected outcomes—effectively altering definitions, logic, direction, or rules. The third type is the "Mysterious Realm": this power enables the creation of a nascent divine realm, bringing about certain concealed effects. "Reconfiguration" embodies the authority over the domain of change, while "the Realm of Mystery" emphasizes the domain of secrecy. Both elements of the "Card of the Fool" are now fully in place... Nevertheless, neither "reconfiguration" nor "revisal" sounds particularly elegant or clearly conveys their meaning—my choice of "fusion" is far more straightforward. After muttering a few thoughts to himself, Caine turned his gaze toward the surroundings. Now, he has gained even greater command over the "Spire of Origins," enabling him to directly access the sequence-0 graces through the "Seer's" path, and to utilize most extraordinary abilities from the sequence-0 and below via the "Thief's" and "Apprentice's" paths—resembling the earlier "Dark Angel" Salsir to a great extent. Of course, Salsir could only indirectly invoke the powers of the "Chaos Sea" through the first "Board of Desecration," whereas Caine, as the sovereign of the Spire, has yet to fully master this primordial essence. Thus, in terms of rank, Caine surpasses Salsir. As for strength, he theoretically should be stronger, but strength is influenced by so many factors. Having only been on the path of the extraordinary for a few years, Caine couldn't even guarantee that he'd defeat the former Heavenly Deputy King or the God's Left Hand. In any case, he now stands among the greatest of the angels, very close to the rank of true deity. "Once I further master the 'Source Citadel,' the differences between my status here and outside will be nearly nonexistent—no longer will I be an angel king outside and a true deity within the Citadel. Here, the greatest advantage is the defense barrier that even true deities cannot breach. As for the Outer Gods, their ability to break through it remains to be seen..." Caine exhaled slowly, shifting his focus to the current situation. He is currently most concerned about two points. First, the "Primordial Moon"—also known as the "Fallen Mother Goddess"—has not fully materialized into the real world through the return of the "Gate" gentleman, but it has managed to penetrate with some strength and has held for several seconds even under attacks from the five True Gods: Night, Steam, and others. Whether this will have a certain impact on the surrounding environment, the corresponding pathways, or certain aspects of reality remains to be seen. Second, the "Time Angel" Amun has stolen the "Gate" gentleman's ritual and has become the Sequence 0 "Error" of the "Theft" Pathway. He will be Klein's most direct and formidable adversary. He is uncertain whether Amun has also absorbed the "Gate" gentleman's uniqueness and the singular Sequence 1 "Key of the Star" exceptional trait. If Amun has accomplished this, then he will become one of the most powerful True Gods in the real world—though it remains to be seen how he compares to the "Goddess of Night." No one knows exactly how far the goddess has accommodated the singularity of the "Death God" path and the singularity of the "War God" path. "Typically, Amun wouldn't have enough capacity to absorb the singularity of the 'Apprentice' path. Although the return of the 'Gate' gentleman constitutes the ritual itself, Amun's primary focus at that time was to replace the 'Gate' gentleman, integrating his three sequence-1 exceptional traits with the singularity of the 'Thief' path to produce a qualitative transformation. He would have neither the time nor the capacity to absorb the singularity of the 'Apprentice' path. Moreover, such an operation would likely awaken the 'Heavenly Sovereign,' and Amun would not be inclined to take such a risk. "Therefore, Amun's subsequent focus is on absorbing the singularity of the 'Apprentice' path, becoming the true god of both paths. Otherwise, under the watchful eyes of the other true gods, it would be extremely difficult for Him to resolve my status as an Angel King." "Moreover, even if He truly took a risk and succeeded—now that He has embraced the uniqueness of the 'Apprentice' path—He will still need time to adapt and stabilize His own state. In the short term, He won't be able to handle me. I must seize the moment and become the ' Fool.' Only then, with the strength of the 'Source Fortress' and my own essence, can I stand against Amun. I don't have much time left..." After silently chuckling to himself, Caine leaned forward and gently tapped the edge of the weathered long table. He is analyzing the possibility that he might become an "Innocent" within a short period of time: The digestion of the "Mysterious Servant" potion is relatively straightforward. Once Caine, through the use of the anchor and his own consciousness, can effectively suppress the resurgent will of the "Fusheng Xuanhuang Tianzun," preventing either a loss of control or a transformation into someone entirely new, he can then leverage the "Source Citadel" to create a duplicate, much like Amun does. This duplicate would then draw upon the Citadel's power to steal the portion of the "Mysterious Servant" extraordinary nature that remains undigested from Charathu. At this point, Caine will immediately transform this duplicate into a secret figure, to prevent any potential anomalies. As a result, Caine will be downgraded to a fully digested "Mysterious Servant," possessing a "Mysterious Servant" secret figure—this latter being one of the primary components of the potion. And a fully digested "Mysterious Servant" is qualified to consume the "Innocent" potion and ascend to the rank of a true God of Sequence 0. This operation isn't overly complex, but it's prone to complications—and the standard "Prophets" path simply can't achieve the dual Sequence 1 Angel King journey unless the Angel King has a "Thief" path Sequence 2 "Fate Steed" companion willing to sacrifice themselves and lend a hand. Of course, a Sequence 1 "Time Worm" companion would also suffice. Thus, for Kline, the most troublesome matters are actually two others: first, how to deal with the half-"Fool" of the Antigonus family, and second, how to complete the ritual of "fooling time, history, or fate." "At my current level and strength, I believe I can overcome the Antigonus family's ancestors—though, of course, that depends on first becoming familiar with the relevant extraordinary abilities and the changes in the 'Source Citadel'... Ah, the 'Fool's' ritual—right now, I have absolutely no ideas." Kline raised his hands, gently pressing on the sides of his forehead, and then turned his gaze toward the gray-white mist beneath the Source Citadel. Between time, history, and fate, he is undoubtedly more familiar with history. Now, he can directly influence the fog of history through "the Source Fortress," strengthening or weakening the corresponding abilities of the "Seer" path—this is the embodiment of authority. "To deceive history... to deceive history..." Klein once again lightly tapped the weathered edge of the long table, his mind flashing with various ideas that kept being rejected. In his view, every conceivable method fell short of fulfilling the requirement to "deceive history," because history objectively records what happens, and whatever exists must be reasonable. Methods that could satisfy this condition—such as returning to the past, taking a magical potion, and becoming the "Fool" from within history—were fundamentally unattainable—at least, Klein has not yet encountered, nor has he seen, any ability to reverse time. As his gaze steadily moved deeper into the fog of history, Klein suddenly had a viable idea. The current, authentic history is this: the members of the Tarot Circle believe they are following a "Knight of the Fool"—a revived ancient deity or an entity transcending the ancient gods—yet in reality, the Knight of the Fool began as an ordinary man suspended in gray mist, gradually building up his image and stature through various resources and efforts. This contradicts true history yet is indeed factual, fulfilling the ritual's requirements. Of course, the precondition is that the "doppelgänger theft" must occur within the "Source Citadel" or some other hidden location; otherwise, it would be recorded in history and fail to achieve the effect of deception. As for how to handle the awakening of "Fu Sheng Xuan Huang Tian Zun" and how to eliminate the original body, transform it into a magical elixir—Clayton currently has no solution. "This approach amounts to self-sacrifice. Indeed, before being killed by the Tian Zun, the doppelgänger's exceptional trait—the 'mysterious attendant'—would surely have been fully absorbed, given that the 'Master of Mystery' had been successfully revived." Clayton shook his head, setting aside the idea that had only begun but never concluded. When he himself could not devise a solution, he decided to seek out an entity who might know how to proceed. His two targets were: first, the "Snake of Fate," Will O'Ceintin, and second, the "Goddess of Night." The former might have some thoughts on "tricking fate," while the latter probably understands the rituals through which the Antigonus family's ancestors once embraced the uniqueness of the "simple-minded." Calming his spirits, Klein left the Source Keep and directly transported himself to Bekkanth.
